Kind Heart Studio is a New Orleans-based screenprinting studio specializing in limited screenprinted editions. Founded by artist and printmaker Monica Tyran, KHS creates handmade, screenprinted illustrations and printed goods, and collaborates with artists, illustrators, designers, institutions.

Artist/Printmaker

Monica Tyran is a screenprinter, printmaker, and arts administrator born and raised in New Orleans, LA. With nearly 18 years of experience balancing her studio practice with a robust career in arts administration, her work is an ongoing exploration of how we process and reconstruct the past through visual storytelling — grounded in the cyclic patterns of everyday life, memory, and personal history. Monica is deeply committed to collaborative work, bringing together artists, designers, and organizations to create impactful programs and materials that drive meaningful change in the arts sector.

Beginning her artistic career as a painter, Monica's practice balances structure with spontaneity — building layered prints that draw on hand-drawn mark-making, photographic imagery, and stenciled forms. Everyday objects and personal artifacts anchor her compositions, becoming vehicles for examining how individual and collective histories live on in material things. Each body of work unfolds as a series, with variations that trace memory's tendency to sharpen in some places and slip away in others. In 2021, she founded Kind Heart Studio, creating a home for her own evolving practice and a resource where other artists could create, collaborate, and be supported in their practice.

Monica studied screenprinting and printmaking at Penland School of Arts & Crafts and letterpress and bookmaking at San Francisco Center for the Book. Her work has been exhibited at venues including Dillard University, Louis Armstrong International Airport, the New Orleans Community Printshop, the Contemporary Arts Center, and Stella Jones Gallery.
